Torii

This collection of paintings is the culmination of Luper’s long search for a distinctly personal visual language. His process began by creating hundreds of drawings then photographing and taping them to the walls of his studio. After editing and collaging the images digitally he chose to paint the ones that most closely represented his ideas.

The layers of architectural objects, shapes, colors, gestural lines, and abstractions are used to instill a sense of movement and constant change that invites meditation and consideration of that which surrounds us constantly. Call it God, Love, a parallel universe, the other side, the void, whatever you want. There is a space that we have one foot in and one foot out of, a space that words can not thoroughly describe.

This work also led to the creation of Luper’s zine titled “Exit Fantasy.”
