Downtown Sound

IMG_4970.jpg

This mural was a collaboration between Justin Luper and artist Adam Lavigne for “Art in Odd Places” (AIOP), a public art experience brought to Orlando Fl. by artist and curator Ed Woodham. AIOP gives artist a theme to interpret however they see fit. For this experience the theme was “Noise.”

Luper and Lavigne combined their different styles to create a 17x17 ft painting on four separate pieces of canvas. They built the entire piece themselves and mounted it on the side of an old building in the middle of Downtown Orlando.

The piece captures the noise of an urban downtown environment. Lavigne’s figurative representations create a proxy for the viewer to enter and experience the painting while Luper’s colorful hashmarks vibrate around the architecture, people, and signage. It all melds together silently to create an abstract visual representation of the noise one experiences in a downtown environment.
